Beginning Auto Detailing New!

Have you ever wondered how used car lots make those used cars look as good as new? RTI is offering an auto detailing class for beginners. This course will cover all of the basic detailing skills including: exterior cleaning and restoration, paint touch-up, trim and chrome restoration, detailing and cleaning seats and interior, and engine compartment detailing. Students will see these skills demonstrated and then will have to opportunity to apply these skills in class.

Introduction to Airbrushing New!

In this hands-on class you will learn the basics to Airbrushing, basic techniques to get you started, and gun control. Computers Don’t Byte

Attention new or prospective computer users – if you have no experience or very limited experience with computers, this ground zero class is for you. This class begins with the On/Off switch. Discussion topics include jargon and buzz words used in newspaper ads for purchasing computers. Students will be taught some fundamental Windows XP concepts. Various programs will be used to sample the major areas of computer applications including: word processing, database, spreadsheet, and email. The emphasis is on the computer for personal use.

GED Preparation

Open the Door to Your Future…Obtain a GED

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people get their GED (General Educational Development) Diplomas. That opportunity is available right here in Rolla and surrounding communities through the Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) Program administered by Rolla Technical Institute. Classes to assist adults in preparing for the GED are offered at no cost to qualified students and feature flexible class times, self-paced learning, individualized instruction, certified teachers, and a relaxed classroom/learning atmosphere.

The Rolla class is located at the Missouri Career Center (formerly Work Connections) in the Forum Plaza Shopping Center. Daytime and evening classes are also available in the surrounding communities of St. James, Cuba, Belle, Salem, Bunker, Newburg, Vinna, and online. Adults 16 and over not attending public school qualify for the program. Class site enrollment is available on a “walk in” basis during the hours the site is open. This course aims at providing the student with the basic tools necessary for oral and written communication in German. The practical basic vocabulary is adapted to present day needs and in sample situations of the kind, which a student is likely to incur in one’s initial contacts with Germans. The course includes: introducing one’s self, asking for directions, giving information and learning one’s whereabouts, going shopping, conversation at parties, handling traffic difficulties, etc. Students must not get tired when requested to repeat a word, a phrase or a sentence several times until you can imitate your teachers pronunciation and intonation to the best of you’re abilities until your spoken German sounds as close to that of a native speaker as possible. Remember: The secret of mastering of foreign language is constant listening, repeating, and practicing.

Certified Medication Technician (CMT)

This course is designed to instruct CNAs in passing medications in long-term nursing facilities. Course includes 60 hours of theory and 20 hours clinical under approved facility staff supervision.

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

A 75-hour mandated course for those aspiring to become nurse’s aides. In addition to classroom instruction, students must have 100 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) at a long-term nursing care institution, supervised by the institution’s approved staff. Students who successfully complete the final examination will have met the Missouri State CNA certification requirements. CNA certification is a pre-requisite for becoming a Certified Medication Technician (CMT). Maximum of 15 students per class. A schedule of units and waiting list of students are kept in the Community Education office. All missed class periods must be made up and OJT completed before final testing is scheduled.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic)

This training designed to enable an individual to recognize life-threatening illness or injury and utilize skills and equipment to correct and combat life-threatening emergencies. Clinical experience in a hospital, ambulance, and extrication work are required. Successful completion of this course will qualify the student to take the state exam for EMT certification. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to enroll, be in good physical condition, and pay for and pass a criminal background check. This is the prerequisite for applying to and entering the EMT-Paramedic course that is offered each fall at RTC. Class size is limited to 20 students.

Safety

Concealed Weapons

This course will fulfill the State of Missouri training requirement to be able to carry a concealed weapon or firearm. The twelve-hour course will teach handgun safety including a demonstration of how to safely load and unload the weapon, how to carry and clean it, and how to safely store it in the home. The class will cover the concealed carry chapter of the law along with the justification of defense chapter. The class also has a required marksmanship section where students must hit a target. Students must qualify on both a revolver and semi-automatic. Students must bring own weapons to the range.

Get ready for hunting season by taking this firearm certification class. Anyone born after January 1, 1967 must have certification to obtain a firearm and/or hunting permit. Think of this as driver’s education for your new sophisticated digital camera. This course is best suited for those who own, or are thinking of buying, a single-lens-reflex camera with interchangeable lenses, but will be valuable even to students with point ‘n shoot cameras. We’ll cover both the technical and creative fundamentals of photography, whether you choose film or digital to express yourself visually. ISO selection, use of lenses, filters, flash, basics of light, exposure, composition and photographic techniques will be covered. Learn how to get more creative control of your new camera for what ever type of photography you like. The course will also include discussion of features to look for in the purchase of a camera, lenses or other accessories. Be sure to bring your camera and owner’s manual to class.

The advanced photography class is the hands-on application of photographic fundamentals covered in the basic class. Night photography, studio lighting and portraiture, hand-tinting photos, and an on-site field trip in the area will be among the lessons covered. Advanced techniques of portraits, weddings, sports, wildlife, nature photography, and any other areas of interest to the students will be discussed based on students’ interest. Basic darkroom techniques may be covered based on student interest.

This is an Environmental Protection Agency approved refrigerant recovery and handling certification self-study course and test.
